Physical and Chemical Properties: Pure 1,2,4-triazole appears as white needle-shaped crystals, while the commercial product appears as a pink or brown solid. Its m.p. is 120-121°C, and its decomposition point is above 220°C. It is freely soluble in water, slightly soluble in acetone and ethyl acetate, and insoluble in chloroform and benzene.
Uses: 1,2,4-triazole is an important intermediate in the synthesis of pesticide fungicides and plant growth regulators such as paclobutrazol, diniconazole, triadimefon, and triadimefon. It is also used as an intermediate in a variety of pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and dyes. Its demand continues to increase as its application expands.
